The Modern Language Education section of the Department of Language and Literacy Education in the Faculty of Education is delighted to welcome you to the Centre de la Francophonie de UBC!
We invite you to share your ideas and participate in the events we organise with UBC teachers, students and alumni, as well as with the francophone community in French, our official language. Many groups from the BC francophone and francophile community already work hard to promote French language and activities in French in our province. For example, Le Bureau des affaires francophones et francophiles at SFU, l’Alliance Française, and Le Centre Culturel Colombien are very active groups working with us to achieve our common goal. Now, the Modern Language Education section at UBC joins UBC Continuing Studies and the Faculty of Arts in inaugurating the Centre de la Francophonie de UBC.
Since 1984, the Faculty of Education has offered a B.Ed. in French to future French immersion, Francophone school, Intensive French or Core French teachers. Each year, our French education programs welcome about 60 future French teachers. Some courses are open to those who are not registered in the B.Ed. program but want to further their knowledge in French education. For example, the course LLED 421, “Gramligne”, is offered online to anyone throughout Canada or elsewhere. Furthermore, since 2008, the MLED section has offered a new M.Ed. entirely in French that can be taken on campus, for people living in the Lower Mainland, or by teleconference for those living outside the Lower Mainland. The summer courses take place in Montreal.
Together with UBC Continuing Studies and the Faculty of Arts, we invite you to join us in the new Centre de la Francophonie de UBC, which will serve both as a gathering place and as an important centre for the promotion of francophone engagement at UBC.
