UBC’s Community Engagement with One of Canada’s Official Languages

The Centre de la Francophonie de UBC strives to encourage students and community members alike to participate in socio-cultural activities in order to foster:

  • Canadian identity, cultural diversity, bilingualism and plurilingualism
  • sociocultural development through projects involving the Francophone community
  • research in linguistic and cultural fields
  • training projects for French teachers

The Centre de la Francophonie also facilitates:

  • francophone artists’ and academics’ seminars
  • film screenings and participation in Francophone film festivals
  • student debates, forums and conferences, as well as writing workshops in French

Advisory Committee

A Centre de la Francophonie de UBC advisory committee, including student representatives as well as representatives from Francophone and Francophile organizations in British Columbia, is currently being established.
